An old uncle has passed away and left you $1,000,000. In his will he stated that you cannot spend the money on yourself or your family – you must use it to benefit others. Which group or cause would you help with the money?
Dear Aunt,
How are you? I am sorry to hear the bad news of Uncle. I was very upset after I hear this heartbreaking news. As you know he stated now in his will, he left 1 million
dollars to do charity work, I would like to tell you how I want to allocate the money. Since uncle cared about children welfare when he was alive, I believe helping children would be a suitable way to make good use of the money.
It is found that there are many poor children in the mainland. Some are even orphans. They do not have enough money to study at school. Therefore, I will donate all money
to UNICEF as they are doing a lot of work for children. I hope it can help the children to have a better childhood and life. In order to ensure the money is used properly, I suggest we have meetings with them beforehand to discuss on the use of the money.
I highly suggest they should use the money to build a school with advanced teaching aids and facilities, such as a Multimedia Learning Centre and a playground. I will also request them to give credit to Uncle since he is the donor of the school and has done a selfless act to many underprivileged children in China.
Moreover, I will also help to monitor the quality of the teachers there by having regular visits and lesson observations. We can also meet the teachers and talk with the students so that they can feel our love and care.
Apart from donating money on behalf of Uncle, I would also like to take up more duties such as being the mentor of the students. I hope to share with them a positive outlook towards life and encourage them whenever they need. I believe that is why Uncle left me the responsibility to allocate the use of his legacy. He would definitely be glad if he knew I am engaged in charitable activities.
I know you are devastated with your great loss. I sincerely hope that you can lift your spirits soon for him and for yourself. In tribute of Uncle, the only thing we can do now is to fulfill his last will and spread his love to the needy. Let’s make it work.
Love,
Edwin
