Dear Editor,
Recently, there have been different views on whether filming movies in the city centre should be allowed or not. Even though there are some people against it because it causes inconvenience to people and shops. I still consider it important to allow filming movies in the city centre.
Firstly, filming movies in the city centre is an excellent way to promote a place and attract tourists. As we all know, tourism in Hong Kong brings a huge sum of revenue to the government. If we allow movies to be filmed in the city centre, the vibrant background representing Hong Kong can be shown on the screen worldwide, which may attract tourists to come and visit Hong Kong. For example, one of Jacky Chan’s movies, “ Rush Hour 2” was set in Hong Kong. People who watched this movie were interested in what Hong Kong was like and then decided to travel to Hong Kong.
Secondly, movies are a good way to record what a city looks like at a particular point in time. When filming movies, the daily activities and the surrounding living environment will be recorded in the movies, which can be an important memory in the history of Hong Kong. Ages later, people who watch the movies can know more about people’s lives and the scenery of Hong Kong in the past.
Moreover, filming movies in the city center is a way to enhance its status internationally. Without being known to others, shooting in the downtown can introduce a place worldwide when the movie is shown to global audiences. More people will try to search for information about scenes inside the movies. Therefore, such a tiny place as Hong Kong can be brought to the world.
In conclusion, filming movies in the city centre should be allowed and supported because it can bring lots of benefits to Hong Kong.
Yours faithfully,
