Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my concerns about private school bus service operators not following proper safety procedures when they are dealing with young children. Many people argue that this may pose a threat to kids. Therefore, I would like to examine the possible dangers and give some recommendations for private school bus serviceoperators to improve their safety mindset.
To begin with, children do not have a safety mentality. They like to play inside the bus, such as changing seats or jumping on their seats. These are dangerous behaviours. They can easily get injured if the bus suddenly stops or makes a turn. However, some drivers or nannies may neglect these and focus on doing their personal stuff. Therefore, tragedies may happen easily.
In addition, some drivers tend to drive at a very high speed. Over-speeding would pose a serious threat to the passengers and the surrounding vehicles. If there is a car accident, it would be a serious tragedy.
As we all know that prevention is better than cure, I would like to give the following suggestions to alleviate the problem.
First, the Bus Operators Associations can provide training to the drivers and nannies about the safety regulations when providing services. They are able to understand the possible dangers which may trigger traffic accidents and provide a safe journey for school children.
Second, the school bus operators need to have regular checks and maintenance on the bus in order to avoid possible traffic accidents.
Finally, some talks can be held at school to raise children’s safety mentality, so that students can understand the importance of safety regulations on the school bus. As a result, they will not play on the bus. This can help minimize the injury of children and accidents when enjoying school bus services.
I sincerely hope that the Bus Operators Association of Hong Kong can consider my suggestion. Not only is it a good way to ensure children’s safety, it is also a good way reduce to possible traffic accidents on the road.
Yours faithfully,
