Dear Editor,
Landfills, which are used for burying the trash that we make every day, have nearly been filled. Therefore, we need to find an alternative way to deal with the trash. It is suggested that building an incinerator is a possible way to solve this problem. In my opinion, it is a good way to solve the problem as our landfills is no longer able to accommodate the rubbish.
First of all, building an incinerator is more environmentally friendly than the landfills. Although using landfills to bury the trash is fast and efficient, they may cause different kinds of pollution problems to our surrounding areas, such as land pollution. By building the incinerator, we can burn the rubbish, which would create fewer pollutants to us.
Secondly, considering the location of the incinerator, probably it will be built away from the residential area, which can cause less disturbance to our citizens. Nowadays, landfills are located in Tseung Kwan O and Tuen Mun. Their locations are near the residential area.
When transporting the disposal waste to the landfills, the stinky smell of the rubbish and the noise created by the vehicles would bring great influence to the residents. Conversely, building an incinerator to replace the landfills can greatly reduce such problems. Therefore, it is an effective way to treat our solid waste by the incinerator.
Lastly, building an incinerator is a good way to arouse the awareness of recycling to our citizens. Normally, people just throw all the rubbish to the landfills without proper sorting. However, when we build an incinerator in our city, it is necessary to sort the rubbish out before sending the rubbish to the incinerator. During the sorting procedure, people can better understand what waste can be recycled and what waste should be directly sent to the incinerator. As a result, the sense of recycling of our citizens would be enhanced.
In conclusion, undeniably, the traditional method of dumping the rubbish to the landfills is easy to treat our waste. However, due to the saturation of our landfills and the limited space to extend them, building an incinerator is a better option to address our waste. More important, it is a more effective and sustainable way to our environment and generation.
Yours faithfully,
