I think that the ice bucket challenge is a great success as it has gained popularity internationally with great donations supported by the general public.
First, the ice bucket challenge has become a fad with many followers. With the help of the social media, Facebook and Instagram, public attention has been drawn on the ALS. Many people try to upload their video on the Internet to show their support to this campaign, such as Canton-pop king Andy Lau, HKTV boss Ricky Wong Wai Kay and Chinese University Vice-chancellor Professor Joseph Sung Jao-yin. Due to the promotion of these videos about ALS, more people can have an understanding of ALS.
Second, the ice bucket challenge has raised a lot of funds. Within four days, the Hong Kong Neuro-muscular Disease Association has received HK$530000 from our generous citizens. With such donations, more support and care can be given to the ALS patients.
Finally, through this campaign, not only do the general public know more about ALS, it also helps draw people’s attention to those minority groups who suffer from other kinds of diseases.
Therefore, it is a successful charitable campaign which can help promote the message of showing concern for ALS sufferers.
